The Art of Godzilla: King of the Monsters by Abbie BernsteinThis is a beautifully illustrated making of documentary book. Some of the the Rembrandt like artwork is incredible and worth the price of admission alone. Several design artists, performers, directors and visual effects technicians offer insights alongside the lavish illustrations. The book also does an excellent job of providing insights into the nuances and references the film makes in service to the legacy of the iconic series. In a sentence, this book offers direct insights into the actual realities of making a large scale project like this happen, while providing a guided tour through a modern CGI kaiju museum. I grew up with and fell in love with the old style practical effects, so suitmation will always be magic, but this film, and the companion making of book do an excellent job of making fans of the modern computer based methods of carrying the kaiju torch. From the intentional color schemes, to the story detail, and the modern design craft this book describes how screen magic is made. GKOTM was the best US produced Godzilla film to date, created by a true fan of the genre. This book is a wonderful piece of art and insight. Magnificent and highly recommended.
