Back to the Boy by James ArthurReview: Back to the Boy by James Arthur Published by: Hoddor & Stoughton (5th October 2017)
There are many things people dont know about me and maybe when they read about those things they will have an understanding of the journey I have been on and why Ive made the mistakes I have.
Nothing that has happened in my adult life makes much sense if you dont know what life was like for me growing up. I have to go back to the boy, because he can tell you a lot more than I can...
In this book James shares his struggles with mental health issues which led to drug-abuse, and how he dealt with the feelings of intense pressure and loneliness that accompanied his sudden rise to fame. Back to the Boy gives an insight into the life of one of the most exciting musicians of today, and how his experiences are reflected in the blend of raw emotion and passion in his music. This is a story of hope and self-discovery to inspire those who have ever hit rock-bottom and managed to pick themselves up again.
Wow. Just...wow! Back to the Boy is unputdownable! I read it cover to cover in one sitting, and was utterly transfixed. 2012 X Factor winner and Sane mental health ambassador, James Arthur, really does bare his soul in this refreshingly honest and unflinchingly raw account of his life thus far. A rags-to-riches story you may have heard before, but this one is quite different. This one made me sit up and take notice. Now it all makes sense. The behaviour. The drugs. Everything.
The candid account of life as a young boy and the struggles as an adult trying to cope with mental health issues make for uncomfortable reading at times and can certainly stir up emotions you may not even be aware are there. I found this so insightful, as a fan and as a reader too. I just want to give James a great big hug. Im seeing him live (for the second time) next month, so you never know...maybe Ill get the opportunity!
If you, or someone close to you has mental health issues, depression, anxiety, panic attacks...you need to read this book, or buy it for them! The book is intelligently written, flows well and has enough high points to balance out the low. I think Jamess openness in Back to the Boy could help a great many people who are struggling, and it would also make the perfect gift for every James Arthur fan. #JArmy
James Arthur sings Frankie Valli's Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Live Week 7 - The X Factor UK 2012
What is James Arthur up to now, is he doing X Factor All Stars and when did he date Rita Ora?
And who could blame him? His tumultuous period after winning The X Factor back in was well-documented. But now the Middlesbrough-born year-old is back - and as far as surprise turnarounds go, he's crafted a career revival that bows down only to Craig David's. Arthur may not have taken any gongs home from the Brits but says it was an "honour" to be nominated. Before that, his sophomore album, Back From The Edge - released in October, shot to number one in the charts, as did lead single Say You Won't Let Go; he's back on the books at Syco, and has just started on a UK tour that runs throughout this month.
Wondering what the future holds can, for many reasons, be a daunting prospect - but when it comes to matters of the heart, James Arthur is only after the simple things in life. We'll have one on each knee, you and me," he sings on his new single, called Falling Like The Stars, which is out this Friday May Fair enough you might think, but what are his predictions for 18 years down the line, when said children have grown up and the honeymoon phase of your relationship is a distant memory? It's largely a piano and strings affair, with the odd twinkly flourish and booming bass thrown in for added melodrama. Listen to a short clip of the track below:.
Former X Factor champ James Arthur's sister says he feels like a caged animal surrounded by yes-men and is lonelier than ever. The singer is terrified about returning to the show tonight to perform his new single Recovery amid the row over his recent "homophobic" rant. It comes at the end of a year in which James, 25, has struggled to make sense of his new world after being catapulted from obscurity in a bedsit to instant celebrity. His older sister Sian reveals the pressures of stardom have been particularly hard on the singer, who has fought a long battle with depression and has attempted suicide in the past. But just 12 months later James faces a bitter backlash over a comment he made which spread on Twitter.
