Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic by H.J. Roberts

Aspartame Disease: an Ignored Epidemic is a definitive book on reactions to aspartame, currently being used by more than two-thirds of the population as an additive/ sweetener. Dr. Roberts is widely regarded as the expert on a host of adverse effects from reactions to popular products containing this synthetic chemical because of his many original observations and extensive research spanning two decades.Physicians, other health care professionals, the media, consumer groups, and aspartame victims or their relatives have inundated Dr. Roberts with requests for a detailed analysis of this unique experience. They recognize that his dedicated objectivity was not restrained by corporate grants or governmental or institutional policies... a remarkable achievement in contemporary medical and biological research.

The need for this volume is underscored by the virtual denial of aspartame disease (so named by Dr. Roberts) from the medical profession and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It meets the Koch-like criteria for a specific disease. Moreover, it has reached epidemic proportions -- probably in the millions. The author presents information on the first 1200 aspartame reactors in his database.

Every physician probably encounters aspartame disease in practice, especially among patients with illnesses that are undiagnosed or difficult to treat. This applies to all fields of medicine and public health.

The failure of doctors to recognize aspartame disease not only deprives patients of proper advice, but also invites medicolegal actions attributed to improper diagnosis and inadequate or risky treatment. It becomes apparent from a partial list of reactions: headache;dizziness; depression; convulsions; impaired vision; the aggravation of diabetes mellitus and its complications; hypoglycemia; multiple allergies (including dual sensitivity to MSG); aspartame addiction; chronic fatigue; eating disorders; pediatric problems; and numerous misdiagnoses. They include fibromyalgia, arthritis, lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimers disease.

This book also can serve as a valuable reference for patients consuming aspartame products who have hit a blank wall. Scores became aware of Dr. Roberts work after they or their relatives probed the Internet out of desperation. Many who recovered became anti-aspartame activists as a result of the virtual blackout of such information by professional groups, the media and this billion-dollar industry; the ridiculing of aspartame disease by doctors, the FDA and dietitians; the use of flawed scientific studies to defuse concern about the safety of aspartame; and the pending approval of new aspartame-like supplements.

This site belongs to a Dr H J Roberts and the vanity press operation which publishes his books. The heading above is the title of one of his books which is regularly cited by the opponents of the sweetener Aspartame. On this page you are told that:. Roberts has been knighted by the Order of St. George for his professional and humanitarian efforts. It is reasonable to assume that none of these awards have been handed out since

They also cited 5 reports in the literature since concerning this combination of conditions. I have written about aspartame disease for more than 2 decades, because of the profound adverse neurologic, cardiopulmonary, endocrine, and allergic effects of aspartame products. My own database exceeds 1, victims of aspartame-related illnesses, with a preponderance of women—a difference that is germane to the disorders under consideration. My 1st report on aspartame-related Graves' disease. Four other women who had been treated previously for Graves' disease developed symptoms suggestive of this condition within a few weeks to 6 months after beginning aspartame consumption; symptoms subsided after cessation.

Aspartame Disease : An Ignored Epidemic. Hyman Jacob Roberts. Roberts is widely regarded as the expert on a host of adverse effects from reactions to popular products containing this synthetic chemical because of his many original observations and extensive research spanning two decades. Physicians, other health care professionals, the media, consumer groups, and aspartame "victims" or their relatives have inundated Dr. Roberts with requests for a detailed analysis of this unique experience. They recognize that his dedicated objectivity was not restrained by corporate grants or governmental or institutional policies

He estimates: 'Hundreds of thousands of consumers, more likely millions, currently suffer major reactions to products containing aspartame. Today, every physician probably encounters aspartame disease in everyday practice, especially among patients with illnesses that are undiagnosed or difficult to treat. Following accepted medical procedure for detecting sensitivities to foods, Roberts had his patients remove aspartame from their diets. With nearly two thirds of reactors, symptoms began to improve within days of removing aspartame, and improvements were maintained as long as aspartame was kept out of their diet. Roberts' case studies parallel much of what was revealed in the FDA's report on adverse reactions to aspartame - that toxicity often reveals itself through central nervous system disorders and compromised immunity. Case studies, especially a large series like this, address some of the issues surrounding real-world use in a way that laboratory studies never can; and the conclusions that can be drawn from such observations aren't just startling, they are also potentially highly significant.
