His voice acting credits include Marlin the clownfish in Finding Nemo, and recurring guest voices for the animated television series The Simpsons, including Russ Cargill in The Simpsons Movie.

Brooks added to his voice work with roles in The Simpsons and Doctor Dolittle. The film found its Nemo in Alexander Gould. Willem Dafoe lent his trademark sound to Gill, the wise moorish idol who has seen a lot during his time in the tank. Brad Garrett played Bloat, a pufferfish whom Nemo encounters in the tank.
