Acts of Faith by Erich SegalThey met as children, innocents from two different worlds. And from that moment their lives were fated to be forever entwined. Timothy : Abandoned at birth, he finds a home--and a dazzling career--within the Catholic Church. But the vows he takes cannot protect him from one soul-igniting passion. Daniel : The scholarly son of a great rabbi, he is destined to follow in his fathers footsteps. And destined to break his fathers heart. Deborah : She was raised to be docile and dutiful--the perfect rabbis wife--but love will lead her to rebellion. And into worlds the patriarch would never dare imagine.
Reaching across more than a quarter of a century, from the tough streets of Brooklyn to ultramodern Brasilia to an Israeli kibbutz, and radiating the splendor of two holy cities, Rome and Jerusalem, here is Erich Segals most provocative and ambitious novel to date--the unforgettable story of three extraordinary lives...and one forbidden love.

Sarah MacLean. All of these elements were present in One Good Earl Deserves a Lover , but since the book is also saddled with a ridiculous premise and a few too many cutesy moments, it made the book tough to grade. In the end, once I got past the set-up in the opening chapters, I enjoyed the emotional journey that followed so I had to give it a conditional recommendation. In the prologue, we see a young man coming home from a night of debauchery to learn that he, the disappointing second son, is now the heir. This state of affairs makes neither the man nor his father happy.
Thank you! When Lady Philippa Marbury realizes she is headed into marriage and marital intimacy without the appropriate knowledge, she does what any proper woman of science should do—research; and who better to approach as a resource than Mr. Cross, the most notorious rake in London? Unbeknownst to Pippa, though, the damage has been done. As Cross watches, fascinated and bemused, and tries to block her at every turn for her own protection, Pippa stamps her own unique mark on a decidedly male territory—the gambling world—and comes into her own, staking a claim on the man of her dreams and the life she never knew she wanted.
