25 Bible Verses About Family
Mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, the list is nearly endless. Some of us even find our family within our friendships. Our closest bonds are with those we call family, which can often lead us to our greatest heartache. We tend to hurt and be hurt by the ones we love the most. Our entire selves, a bulk of our identity, comes from our family. God gives us many examples of what a Godly family should be.
In praying and contemplating doing a post on Bible verses about family I struggled with the knowledge that many of the people who will read this post come, like I do, from broken families or have a broken family. I did not want to come across as presenting some type of ideal that is either unrealistic or harsh when our realities are that we have not had the perfect family that we would all like to have. However there is an ideal, a goal that all of us can work towards meeting that will have great benefits both here on earth and when we get to heaven. Not because He is some type of ogre that would force us to fit into some type of mold, but because He is a loving father that has an eternities worth of experience that knows what works best. So I present to you the heart of God for the Christian family revealed in His word. May we all, myself included see more of His heart become reality in our families.
About This Item
And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. If a man sleeps with his aunt, he has shamed his uncle ; they will bear their guilt and die childless. Either his uncle , or his uncle 's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself. And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel. And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you. And Saul said unto his uncle , He told us plainly that the asses were found.
TV shows and movies often portray uncles as carefree jokesters, uptight know-it-alls, or creepy losers. This is perhaps most clearly shown in the life of Abraham and Lot. Undoubtedly he learned it growing up under the wing of his uncle and mentor, Abraham. When God called Abraham to begin his journey, Lot went with him Genesis It seems clear to me that God wants us uncles and aunts to be involved in the lives of our nieces and nephews whenever possible.
