Father Said: Poems by Hal SirowitzFATHER SAID is the book fans of Sirowitzs MOTHER SAID have been waiting for: after all, parents come in pairs. Hals mother may have dominated the Sirowitz household with her overly-protective advice and flair for inducing Jewish guilt, but Mr. Sirowitz had a few bon mots to impart to his son as well. In FATHER SAID, he teaches Hal important lessons on How to Be a Humanitarian, The Meaning of Racism, What to Do When You Burp, Being a Good Citizen, Why God Created Eve, How to Avoid Being Idle, and Taking Your Fun While You Can. Sounds like a typical dad, right? But Mr. Sirowitzs cautionary tales prove to be as idiosyncratic as his wifes. In FATHER SAID, Hal gives us a wonderfully funny and tender portrait of his dear old Dad, from childhood memories to his death from cancer. Fathers, mothers, and their sons and daughters everywhere will recognize something of themselves in the Sirowitz family--and while they laugh at their arguments and their nagging, they will also feel the love and familial affection running strongly through these poems. MOTHER SAID sold 20,000 copies and has been translated into nine languages. Both MOTHER SAID and MY THERAPIST SAID
A sleep I shall have A rest I shall have Yet death will be but a pause For the peace of my years In the long green grass Will be yours and yours and yours. A limb has fallen from the family tree. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Losing a father or parent may be one of life's most difficult experiences. Sometimes a poem for a dad who passed away can make the task of eulogizing a beloved father just a little bit easier. The loss of a dad is especially poignant when it happens while a child is still young.

Loss of Mother Poems
Next Poem. This poem touched my heart in so many ways! I'm writing this through tears. On June 23, , I lost my dad to cancer. I had just gotten to meet him. That sounds odd, I know, but I didn't get
Mothers are faithful companions and confidants even in the most difficult times. Mothers dedicate their lives to caring and providing for their children both physically and emotionally. They always seem to know how to help them to overcome problems and thrive in spite of them. A mother's love is irreplaceable, which makes losing her to death an incredibly painful experience. While sons and daughters of all ages carry within their hearts a dull and lasting ache where they once felt love and security, it is important they continue searching for the happiness their mother always desired for them. My Mother seems so far away from me, On that beautiful white shore across the sea. Yet I remember love's soft glow upon her face, And the feel of her touch and tender embrace.
