Being Suicidal Isn't Weak, Selfish, or Cowardly
Soon after news broke about the death of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, amid the flood of condolences and the raw expressions of grief and shock—came the others; the ones who are never far, always hiding just out of view, ever ready to crawl from out from the cracks. In moments like these, they surface to offer flippant, callous, armchair sermons about how selfish suicide is, about how cowardly the dead person was, about why he or she should have thought of their children, spouses, loved ones. They add insult to fatal injury by heaping shame upon a suffering that had already proven to be too much to bear for someone.

I honestly believe that suicide is a cowards way of quitting. When that individual decides o take their life, they also take way the happiness of many others, the possibilities of creating innovations or leading revolutions. I understand that sometimes people feel as though they have no other outlet to escape their situations, what they fail to realize however, is that they have it easy. Their are multiple kids in 3rd world countries starving but fighting, and even in the U. S; their are countless kids suffering from rare diseases but they are till fighting and living through each day like a champ. Want to escape petty problems like bullying, grab a book or go online
Stuff That Needs To Be Said
If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, help is out there. Reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at Suicide is a subject many are afraid to talk about or even acknowledge. But how do we not talk about one of the leading causes of death? Each year, suicides claim the lives of 44, people in the United States alone.
If you glance through the Facebook page of Arjun Bhardwaj, the year-old who killed himself by jumping out of a hotel in Mumbai, what leaps out at you is the number of people who are eager to judge and condemn the young man for his choice. Without immediately recognisable signs or the vocabulary to properly articulate psychic pain, experts observe, most people fail to recognise just how intense and complex the emotional experiences of a person in the depths of depression are. As Dr Lakshmi Vijayakumar, Founder of the suicide-prevention centre Sneha, and a consultant with the WHO, describes it, such persons experience an intense churning of a variety of emotions such as anger, guilt, loneliness, helplessness and hopelessness that is difficult to grasp in its full intensity and variety. As Ajanta De, Counsellor and Co-Founder at InnerSight Counselling, points out, sadness is a temporary reaction to an external trigger that passes as we cope with it. Depression, on the other hand, is a mental health problem, much like a physical disorder, that requires treatment and counselling, and cannot simply be wished away. That sort of a death wish is like sadness.
Is it a choice? But the questions present us with an opportunity to educate the public and shape the discussion about suicide. Suicide is not a choice. Suicide is a health issue. Suicide can result if a mental illness—like major depression or bipolar disorder—goes untreated, in the same way that a patient can die from pneumonia if they go untreated.
