Who Was Neil Armstrong? by Roberta Edwards

Who was Neil Armstrong by Roberta Edwards is an interesting informational book that explores the famous life of Neil Armstrong.Niel Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930, on an Ohio farmhouse. He was the oldest of his siblings and his mothers pet. Neil was fascinated by airplanes and flying since he was a little boy and flew on a Tin Goose airplane when he was six, he enjoyed every minute. Neil was an above average student, not top, and loved to read. Neil attended Purdue University on a Navy scholarship which meant he had to serve in the Navy. Niel was able to fly planes in the Navy and graduated from flight training school. Niel married and had kids, but then began the space race. The Soviet Union put a man in space first and America was challenged. In 1962, NASA looked for more astronauts who met the qualifications, Niel was one of them. Neil was one of the nine men chosen by NASA to become an astronaut. Neil was launched into space on the Gemini 8 in March of 1966. He was the command pilot on the mission that went wrong. In January 1969, Neil was named commander of Apollo 11, the trip to the moon. On July 16, 1969, Neil and his crew launched into space and landed on the moon on July 20. He returned home and died on August 25, 2012. I recommend this book to any interested in Apollo 11 or Niel Armstrong.

On July 20, — exactly 50 years ago today— humans did what had never been done before: set foot on another celestial body. It's one of mankind's single greatest achievements. For starters, the Moon is , kilometres away. It was a colossal project. Massive advances in flight science were required — in a relatively short time. There were many unknowns: prolonged weightlessness, radiation, docking and meteoroid hazard. Giant rockets were needed.

Neil Alden Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the Moon. He was also an aerospace engineer , naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor. Before becoming an astronaut, Armstrong was an officer in the U. Navy and served in the Korean War. When was Neil Armstrong born?

Here are a list of questions submitted by an Astronotes reader and my answers, some short, some lengthy. I have quoted the questions exactly as asked apart from slight changes to word spacing and punctuation quotation marks around some words are as used in the original questions. How much air did Armstrong and Aldrin carry with them during their moonwalks and how was this achieved? Several clarifications must be made before it is possible to answer this. The air we are used to breathing at sea level is mostly nitrogen, only a fifth of it is oxygen.
