In 2006, the Government of Southern Sudans Ministry of Education agreed to change its name to Juba National University. At present it is the only university in Sudan which maintains English as its language of instruction after the Islamic revolution, to meet the needs of its largely southern Sudanese non-Arabic speaking students and benefit from international teaching material.
