Jack and Jill by Louisa May AlcottOld-fashioned? Sure. Out of date? Not at all. Despite being written more than a century ago, this charming and sweet book has some very important themes and messages for today. In classic LMA fashion, this book is meant to be morally inspiring for Tweens and teens who already accept the moral premise of classic conservative Christian values. To evaluate a LMA book outside of that bent is to essentially judge a fishs ability to climb a tree. In my opinion, this book is highly entertaining and inspiring. As a life long LMA fan and a young mom, I enjoyed many of the characters and their story arcs. Admittedly, this book is not without sermons and it is difficult to follow the conversations in places where the speaker changes but the formatting seems to hide that fact. There is no question that I enjoyed this book as a young mom and look forward to sharing it with my children.

The little girl with an incurable neurological condition had become too big for her cot at home and she was entitled to an electric care bed from the health service. But her parents were told that age, not size, determined when she could have that bigger bed. Logic-defying bureaucracy can be the last straw for carers when they have to deal with all the other challenges that looking after a child with complex medical needs entails.

Mr Irwin said the fall-off is a direct effect of the financial scandals which rocked the charity sector in recent times. And it stops people reaching for their chequebooks. The charity provides home care for families whose children have brain damage or profound disabilities. They also provide end of life care where necessary, and receive less than 20pc of their funding from the State. Mr Irwin has called upon those responsible for the damage to the charity sector to take responsibility for the impact their negative actions have had.
Irwin explained that the HSE grant covers the cost of its fundraising division in terms of accounts, HR, IT and fundraising team, including his salary meaning that money donated by the public goes directly to fund home nursing for children. I can assure you that I get no top-up payments, no bonus, no pension. We also rely on the generosity of our network of volunteers who give their time free and our corporate partners. Registered in Ireland: Their child has a significant neurological condition and recently came home from hospital. My role is to support them as much as possible so listening to their concerns is paramount. I guide them through filling out forms to claim entitlements and I organise for two of our nurses to link in with them. They will need ongoing respite care and home support. I indulge in dashboard dining while heading to East Cork to see a family where a child has a life-limiting condition. They have issues around feeding so I help out with that.
