The Difference Between Red Nose Pitbull and Blue Nose Pit Bulls

Love-A-Bull began as a Meetup Group in , and though it has since grown into a c 3 nonprofit organization, it still maintains its presence on Meetup. Our main site is www. Love-A-Bull regularly hosts fun activities, but our main goal is to increase awareness of issues that affect pit bull type dogs and their guardians. Our group is composed of members that live in Austin and the surrounding areas, as well as national members who wish to support our mission. We welcome the support of proud pit bull parents and others interested in supporting the above ideals and those who will work to further our goals.

Would you pick a dog over the color of its nose? Ever been told a red nose pit bull is a different breed of dog on its own? These are medium-sized, short-haired dogs with strong, muscular bodies. A member of the molosser breed, the red nose pit bull originally came from a breed of Irish pit dogs known as Old Family closely inbred with other dog groups of the same breed. This means red nose pit bulls started in Ireland and were eventually brought to America. Various strains were crossbred with the Old Family Reds which resulted to the American pit bull terrier breed.

Blue nose pit bulls are often talked about with passion and the red nose pit bulls are often portrayed as rare, but what kind of dogs are they.

The Term "Pit Bull" Refers to Several Breeds

Bruce the Blue Nose Pitbull

The red-nosed pit bull is a great variation of the pit bull dog, specifically the American pit bull terrier. This sweet dog has a very distinct appearance, and a very intimidating one at that. Back in the s, pit bulls of all types were bred to become animals that fought and played in dangerous games. They were used as bait for bulls, who then tore them up and killed them. It was considered a sport much like dog fighting is today — illegal and unethical and disgusting. Fortunately, it did not take long for public officials to create laws and addendums that made this sport illegal so that it stopped a lot of it. The red-nosed pit bull is often compared to the blue-nosed pit bull, and though they are of the same heritage, there are many differences between the two.

What is the difference between blue nose and red nose pit bulls? Some seem to argue that they are two separate breeds of dogs, though that is not the case. While we know that there are a number of similarities, then, between Blue Nose and Red Nose Pit Bulls, what are the differences? In both cases, the nose and coat color is a result of recessive genes from the parents. Blue Noses have more of a grayish or charcoal color nose, and the coat is often a similar gray color. With both types, inbreeding is a concern with breeders whose focus is physical characteristics over the health of the dog. In the s and 50s, several breeders were careful to try and preserve this strain, though any litter could produce a red nose.
