The Escape from Jakku occurred during the cold war when a scavenger named Rey and a defecting stormtrooper named Finn escaped from the forces of the First Order on the planet Jakku. They carried with them a Resistance droid called BB-8 , who carried a vital piece of a map that would reveal the whereabouts of the vanished Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Finn advised Rey to fly low to confuse the TIEs' tracking. With the TIE fighters destroyed, they escaped into space. FN escorts Poe Dameron, before asking for his help in escaping the Finalizer.
The character first appeared in the film Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a First Order stormtrooper who, shocked by the Order's cruelty in his first combat mission, flees and joins forces with Rey and later the Resistance. The idea for the character, whose name during early pre-production was Sam, came from screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. And then we were struggling to figure out who the male lead was going to be. I remember we talked about pirates and merchant marines and all this stuff, and finally Larry [Kasdan] got pissed at all of us and he's just like, "You guys, you're not thinking big.
