Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny And Girly by Brian Comport

In a large mansion in rural England, a group of eccentric and at times dangerous adults act out a peculiar role-playing game in which they each act as a member of a happy family - the mother, the nanny, the son and the daughter. Sonny and Girly, both in their early twenties, act, speak and dress as young schoolchildren, and occasionally decide to spice up their happy family by bringing home a vagrant, bum or hippie from the local park to be a new member and play their game, which they record on an 8mm Kodak film camera for Mumsys archives.

The trouble is, Mumsy is very strict about the rules of happy family. And when her little darlings decide to bring home a man who is already a little on the edge and he falls for all three women in the happy family, mayhem ensues.

We like to get together and watch movies, each of us taking turns at being the one to pick the titles. Beyond that, you just want your choices to be films that will be enjoyable and memorable. I think I can say I have a fairly high success rate in picking films that work for this group. But there has been the occasional misstep. I once cleared a room with a showing of a moody early Wim Wenders title, and another time left everyone feeling deranged after presenting the bent drama The Baby. The problem was timing and setting.

The film originated as a dream project for renowned cinematographer-turned-director Freddie Francis , who wanted the opportunity to direct a film over which he had complete creative control, instead of working on assignment from a studio as was the case with his previous directorial efforts. Francis teamed with writer Brian Comport to build the movie around Oakley Court , which Francis had used for exterior shots in previous films. Though the film fared poorly in British cinemas, it enjoyed a brief but successful run in North America before going on to achieve status as a cult film. Four individuals live in a secluded manor house in the English countryside, where they engage in an elaborate role-playing fantasy called The Game. In The Game, each individual assumes the role of a member in a "happy" family, completely subsuming his or her individual personality to the point that each individual is known only by the identity he or she is playing: Mumsy the mother, Ursula Howells , Nanny the nanny , Pat Heywood , Sonny the son, played by Howard Trevor , and Girly the daughter, Vanessa Howard. The Game is built around a set of strictly enforced yet ill-defined rules, the principal one of which is "Rule No.

Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny, and Girly, released as Girly outside the United Kingdom, is a British horror-comedy film. The film originated as a dream project for.
