An Aussie Night Before Christmas by Yvonne Morrison

This is the type of book that is not helpful to kids! Aussie slang meant for adults. Im not a prude or fussy, but this is confusing. Okka Aussie slang that as I was reading, felt cringeworthy and silly. Having a small lad that needs engaging and fun reading, this fell short. This was just like the final scenes of the Point Break movie with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. The final scene where Aussie surfers were clearly American actors that had a terrible Australian dialect. Neither helpful or true to the audience intended! I know Im meant to support Aussie authors, but this is frustrating.

Australian Christmas VS British Christmas

Poetry Friday: An Aussie Christmas

Christmases] 1. Oxford Dictionaries. Christmas is a mix of the Christian celebration of the birth of Christ, combined with the time of year and concepts from earlier celebrations and beliefs such as the Norse Yule, the honouring of Odin in Germany, worship of Mithra, Saturnalia and even early Mesopotamia that occurred at this time of the year. It was not until the 4 th century that the Feast of the Nativity was declared by Pope Julius. This later became known as Christmas and over time developed the present Christmas format.

Christmas wombat style

Christmas in Australia is a unique experience. A Queensland newspaper The Morning Bulletin March published a recipe for boiling a pudding in the container it was to travel in:. Rub in 1lb lard, add 2 lb mixed dried fruits and mix well.

Dashing through the bush…in a rusty Holden ute…. Follow this carrot loving wombat on a Christmas adventure like no other. The Reindeers are causing problems on the farm so Santa and Barry have to put everything right. Australia of course! He travels from the Great Barrier Reef to Rottnest Island as he takes a break from delivering all those presents. Out with the snow and the reindeer and in with the Roos and all things Aussie.

Thanks to list member Clarice M. Harris - a student teacher she had. Clarice wrote, "Knowing my fondness for this poem, he gave me a book of it which I still have. Harris copyrighted the poem in My book is dated I have not requested permission from the writer - I don't know how to contact him - but I am sending this to you any way.
