Based on the enormously popular Prairie Home Companion, Keillors show on public radio, this collection of stories of modern Midwestern life skyrocketed to the top of the bestseller lists in the mid 1980s, and remained there. In this small Minnesota town, all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average. It just made Thanksgiving feel more necessary somehow. It's been in the 30s ever since Wednesday night. Winter came in, it just came right in and the wind came up. Rosen discovers the meaning of Thanksgiving while deer hunting, in a November monologue. Click here to refresh the feed. We had a big wind here this last week, big rainstorm on Wednesday and Thursday.

It was included in the second half of each A Prairie Home Companion APHC radio show Garrison created and is typically preceded by announcing, "It's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, my hometown, out on the edge of the prairie", sometimes with "my hometown" being said at the end. The first item of news is a recounting of the weather and its effects on the Lake Wobegon residents. From there, details about what the residents have been doing are provided. For events and conversations that Garrison was not directly a witness for, he stated "I have my sources". The report usually concludes with, "And that's the news from Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average.

With the exception of a telephone call from President Obama, the show, which was recorded Friday at the Hollywood Bowl in front of 18, people, ambled along the way it always has. The phone call was telling. The self-effacing Mr. Keillor refused to allow the conversation to be about himself. He praised Mr. Keillor responded with awkward silence.

His last show, "Sumus Quod Sumus" from the official motto of the fictitious Lake Wobegon, "We are what we are" was recorded at the Hollywood Bowl, rather than the show's traditional home at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota. New host Chris Thile, who first appeared on the show at age 15, will start October 15th.
