Lonely Planet Montreal & Quebec City by Lonely Planet

A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

Montreal Quebec Canada Virtual Tour 4K

After all, it has a great nightlife, a beautiful old town, and a European vibe that seemingly transports you right out of North America. While Montreal certainly has its merits, many people overlook its neighbor to the northeast. Quebec City is under three hours from the Vermont border, and rivals Montreal in atmosphere, food, history, and nightlife.

Montreal vs Quebec City - Montreal Forum

More precisely, Montreal and Quebec City--where French is the spoken language, but everyone understands English; where the dollar is quite strong and where tourists are welcomed with the singular warmth that defines the friendly Canadian. This article is the second in my two-part feature on Montreal and Quebec Cityand visiting both cities in one trip is quite doable. Read about Montreal here. We, however, were dazzled. Indeed, I have seen Quebec at its winter worst and it still seduced me. We are planning a trip and trying to decide how to split our precious time. Which is your favorite city and why? Two totally different experiences. Quebec city is more impressive for tourists it's small, has a castle and you can feel the historical vibe everywhere but Montreal has its charms as well and there's a lot to see and do. For me, Quebec City is small and historic and beautiful, but it gets old quickly. It's tiny, it's homogenous, but it's historic and rather quaint and charming. Perfect romantic getaway if you're not feeling too ambitious.

Montreal is a must, food is amazing and there is something special about the place. It is hard . Quebec city is more quaint and not international like Montreal is.

The Carnaval de Quebec

Montreal is recognized for having countless local and international festivals all year round—from the International Jazz Festival in June to the outdoor electronic music festival in January called Igloofest—but when it comes to winter celebrations, Quebec City is the clear winner. The Carnaval de Quebec is the oldest as well as the most well known of the winter festivals that take place each year across the country, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. For example, nine miles Lawrence River, the Chute Montmorency stands at feet One of the oldest attractions in town, the toboggan run has cut right through the middle of the city from mid-December to mid-March every year since

We are trying to determine if we should spend 3 days in Quebec City or Montreal. We will be coming off of a Crystal Cruise that enbarks in Quebec City. Crystal is including a transfers to Montreal and a night's lodging. We are not sure if this is because Montreal is a better airport? We cancelled then ights stay because we didn't like the hotel offered but wondering if we should just stay in Quebec depending on if we can change our air. We are thinking Quebec City might be better for my husband who has terminal cancer and can not do a lot of walking.

  1. I was dubious about these claims because it seemed impossible for someplace to feel and be like Europe when in fact it was a continent away.

  2. This is a strange question, but we're thinking of a last-minute trip and I'm looking at Montreal and Quebec for 3 nights or so each.
