Slouch Witch (The Lazy Girls Guide to Magic, #1) by Helen Harper

Lets get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact, shes probably the last witch in the world who youd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, shed spend all day every day on her sofa where she could watch TV, munch junk food and talk to her feline familiar to her hearts content.

However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, shes yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch, the investigative department of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Her problems are quadrupled when a valuable object is stolen right from under the Orders noses. It doesnt exactly help that shes been magically bound to Adeptus Exemptus Raphael Winter. He might have piercing sapphire eyes and a body which a cover model would be proud of but, as far as Ivys concerned, hes a walking advertisement for the joyless perils of too much witch-work.

And if he makes her go to the gym again, shes definitely going to turn him into a frog.

Algorithms to Live By

All our lives are constrained by limited space and time, limits that give rise to a particular set of problems. What should we do, or leave undone, in a day or a lifetime? How much messiness should we accept? What balance of new activities and familiar favorites is the most fulfilling? These may seem like uniquely human quandaries, but they are not: computers, too, face the same constraints, so computer scientists have been grappling with their version of such problems for decades.
