Batman: Earth One, Volume 1 by Geoff Johns

A #1 New York Times bestseller
Batman is not a hero. He is just a man: fallible, vulnerable, and angry.
In a Gotham City where friend and foe are indistinguishable, Bruce Waynes path toward becoming the Dark Knight is riddled with more obstacles than ever before. Focused on punishing his parents’ true killers, and the corrupt police that allowed them to go free, Bruce Waynes thirst for vengeance fuels his mad crusade and no one, not even Alfred, can stop him.
In the tradition of the #1 New York Times bestselling Superman: Earth One, Volume 1, writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank re-imagine a new mythology for the Dark Knight, where the familiar is no longer the expected in this long-awaited original graphic novel from DC Comics.

Batman: Earth One, Volume 2

On Twitter, artist Gary Frank released some new artwork from the upcoming third volume of Batman: Earth One with the caption, "It's coming! Frank had nothing else to say about the book, save for that he and writer Geoff Johns are working at it when the two of them have the chance. Still, Frank promises that it'll come out when the two of them are able to commit more time to it. Well, It'll be a while. They have us on another little project at the moment but we'll finish when we can. A Green Lantern book is set to arrive in March, while Aquaman and Flash have their stories in development as well.

However, Johns had a very distinct and unique interpretation in mind. Then I waited and waited and waited and waited… To be fair, Johns has a pretty good set of excuses for the long delay of this Batman: Earth One follow up. Though still a book primarily dedicated to world building, the story is no longer weighed done by trudging through all of the Year One motions. Batman is up and running now. The city knows he exists.

Being first is something rarely accomplished with ease. It requires braving uncharted—and often scary—waters. The reality is that failure, not success, often befalls those courageous enough to take the leap into the unknown. For a handful of heroes, Earth-1 is that proverbial unknown of the Multiverse. On the newly formed Earth-1, these heroes are just starting out. Sounds rough, right?
