Parcells: A Football Life by Bill Parcells

After his pivotal 2013 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, iconoclastic and Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Parcells finally reveals his life story and 50 storied years of football. Widely acclaimed sports writer Nunyo Demasio touches on some of the biggest NFL franchises in history, including the New York Giants, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Dallas Cowboys.

Bill Parcells may be the most iconic football coach of our time. During his decades-long tenure as an NFL coach, he turned failing franchises into contenders. He led the ailing New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories, turned the New England Patriots from a team best known for their drug scandals into an NFL powerhouse, reinvigorated the New York Jets, brought the Dallas Cowboys back to life, and was most recently enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He changed the way the game was played, reimagining his teams with ferocious defenses and smashmouth offenses that spawned such great players as Hall of Famers Lawrence Taylor and Curtis Martin. Beloved and controversial but always respected, this is a rare inside look at one of footballs greatest minds at the most reflective time in his career.

1984 - Book 1 - Chapter 1 Summary & Analysis - George Orwell

How Orwell Creates a Believable Setting in 1984

Topics: Setting. It tries to control how people spend every minute of their time, even in private, who they associate with and what there are allowed to say. A totalitarian government will even try to control what people think and what they believe. What Orwell was trying to do with , was to give his reader a clear picture of what it would be like for a free country, like England, to be under a totalitarian rule. Rockets frequently explode in the streets that blow people to bits. The worst part is that the government is always watching everything people do.

The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink. It enforces loyalty to Big Brother through fear, buttressed through a massive apparatus of security and repression, as well as systematic brainwashing. The Ministry of Love building has no windows and is surrounded by barbed wire entanglements, steel doors, hidden machine-gun nests , and guards armed with "jointed truncheons ". Referred to as "the place where there is no darkness", its interior lights are never turned off.

While Brave New World describes a future of everyone getting exactly what they want, George Orwell takes this in the opposite direction with a description of how the world most likely will be: mindless, loveless, unfeeling followers of nothing. The first paragraph of the story already foreshadows of what is to come with a description of Victory Mansions, the home of Winston Smith, the protagonist of this story. Free Essays words 3.

  1. The mascot of the government, the aforementioned Big Brother, is everywhere, never letting both the characters and the readers feel safe.
